Introduction
From 3 July 2010, all commuters will be charged a fare according to the total distance travelled, on the bus, LRT and MRT. The introduction of Distance Fares will bring about a more integrated fare structure that will allow commuters to make transfers without incurring additional cost. With Distance Fares, fares are computed on a journey basis, without a boarding charge being imposed for every transfer trip that makes up your journey. This way, you can choose the travel option that suits you best. With the completion of the Circle Line from Dhoby Ghaut to Bartley, the transport options for commuters have widened greatly. For example, residents living in Bishan now have the additional option of taking the train when travelling from Bishan to MacPherson. The opening of the Circle Line from Harbourfront to Marymount next year will open up even more travel options for commuters.
Distance Fares is a major step towards integrating Singapore's public transport system and gives commuters greater flexibility, choice and convenience.
To fully enjoy the benefits of Distance Fares, remember these points:
- Pay with an EZ-Link or NETS Flashpay stored value card
- You may make up to 5 transfers within a single journey, with a 45-minute allowance between each transfer
- You can take up to 2 hours to complete your journey
- You can enter and exit the train network only once in a journey and
- You should not take the same bus service number more than once in a journey
How will senior citizens, children and students benefit?
Senior citizens enjoy 25% discount off adult fares and pay a flat fare for travel beyond 7.2km. Senior citizens’ concession fare applies all day on weekends and public holidays but they have to start their journeys after 9am on weekdays to enjoy concession fare.
Children and students enjoy 50% discount off adult fares and also pay a flat fare for travel beyond 7.2km.
Senior citizens, children and students will continue to tap in on entry but must remember to tap out only on exit in buses so that they pay only for the distance travelled.
